Last month I made a challenge for myself to read 3 books. I completed the challenge but I didn’t read 3 books but 4 books. I’m very pleased with myself and I’m glad that I picked up reading again as I really enjoy it.
Unfortunately the books I’ve read weren’t that great in my opinion. I’m discussing each book I’ve read last month in this post but remember it is my opinion. There are very good reviews on good reads about those books and I’m surprised that my opinion about them is completely opposite. Maybe they are just not the type of books that I’m interested in.
A Taste for Love – Marita Conlon-McKenna
About the Book
Alice swaps her chef’s hat for cooking in her own kitchen at home for her family and friends instead. But then her marriage with Liam is over. She has to stand on her own two feet again. That’s harder then she thought it would be.
Giving up her passion years ago it’s time to start doing her passion again.
Alice starts The Martello School of Cookery. A group of strangers learn to create delicious food. They not only learn how to cook but also recipes for life.
The book has not got a proper story. There are many characters in this book and they have all their own story it doesn’t really comes together to one story.
It’s also quit chaotic with so many characters and all the sisters, uncles, friends of friends of those character. You have to remember a lot of characters what is confusing and annoying to me.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but there is a love thing going on between two characters and just like that they are not seeing each other anymore without any explanation and then further in the book both of them have another relationship. To me it is very confusing this way and again it doesn’t make the story to a proper a story if that makes sense.
I did enjoy reading the book though as I was curious about each character but I would have written a book about each character separately.
Even that I did enjoy reading this book I still wouldn’t recommend this book. There are many better books on the market.
The Light Between Oceans – M.L. Stedman
About the Book
Tom and Izzy are the only islanders on an Island in Australia. Tom is the lighthouse keeper. Tom and Izzy are happily married but are desperate to have a child together. One day a boat washes up on shore with a dead man and a crying baby. Tom and Izzy are about to make a devastating decision.
”They break the riles and follow their hearts. What happens next will break yours”.
I was expecting so much about this book. I couldn’t wait to start reading it but I’m so disappointed. A lot happened in this book but also not. The way things were described hardly made me feel anything. I was expecting that it would be heart-breaking and that I would have been crying a lot reading this book, but unfortunately none of this happened. As soon as I finished the book I watched the trailer of the movie and that gave me straight away goose bumps so I have hope for the movie as the trailer already made me feel more then the book did.
Maybe someday I’m going to re-read it again as I hope to feel then what I was expecting to feel.
I am recommending this book I know it sounds weird after reading my opinion but I’m sure this book has more to give then I have experienced maybe I’ve just read it to quickly and that’s why I like to read it again.
The Midwife’s Confession – Diane Chamberlain
About the Book
Noelle was a midwife, she was also the woman Tara and Emerson her best friends trusted to deliver their precious babies in the world. Tara and Emerson where in shock with Noelle’s suicide. They didn’t see it coming, Noelle didn’t seem like she had any problems, they were so close and knew each other so well. After Noelle’s dead they found an unfinished letter hidden in Noelle’s things. They didn’t knew Noelle that well after all.
What they found out after will destroy their own life’s and the life of a desperate stranger, forever.
Well what should I say about this book. I did enjoy reading it but I was so disappointed about the end of the book. To me it was all rushed together as if the author had to finish it to catch a train or something. I hate books with endings like that. The whole story your looking forward to get close to the end bit and then it’s just finished without a proper end of the story.
The rest of the book was ok to read. It was an interesting and exciting story to read I was very curious what the big secret was of Noelle. It really makes you want to read the book it’s only disappointing in the end. I still would recommend this book.
How to Find Love in a Bookshop – Veronica Henry
About the Book
Emilia has returned to the Cotswold, her hometown. Her father who owned a bookshop passed away. Nightingale Books is a dream come true for book-lovers. The best stories aren’t written in the books but come from her customers.
After her father has died she figures out that the bookshop needs to be saved. Is Emilia going to manage to save the family business?
This was a lovely book to read. It’s lovely to see that Emilia gets a bond with people who were first strangers and they are all willing to help her. It makes me realise that we should be more like that in real life as well. I haven’t got much else to say about this book as I would say to read it for yourself. It’s a nice and relaxing book to read what makes you laugh and feel good.
As you could read in my opinion about the books it wasn’t the best month of books for me. I’m disappointed in that myself and I really do hope next month will be better. I hope you read some great books last month, if so please let me know what book I really need to read as I’m always looking for book recommendations.
